I Reserve the Right to Vent...

Today we went out to take our family pictures. Again. This was attempt #2. I took lots of pictures but ended up not liking any of them. I can't get a picture of just me and Brandon that I like...and everything is just...wrong. It didn't help that I forgot my tripod today either. Luckily we found a big log and an electrical box to place my camera on. It seems like everyone is always in a bad mood before pictures and I become in a bad mood during and after when I see the finished product.
We went to a railroad track today...hated those pics. And since I haven't taken formal family pictures for over a year...I have gotten out of the habit of setting my camera to the proper settings. It was cloudy and our pictures were all blue. That was an easy fix with my editting program but then the sky is...white. It has no depth to it whatsoever.

I wanted to go back to Lake Tahoe...where we had attempt #1...but last night when Brandon asked where we were going for pictures and I replied 'Lake Tahoe', he gave me a look. An hour drive...with 4 hungry and tired kids...and a not so happy husband because we're taking pictures in the first place...did not sound appealing to me. But I don't want last years picture. We went to the Golf Club 5 min. from our house.

I just want a NICE family picture. This is the only time I ask for one. Some families get a family picture every couple of months. I am totally jealous of those families. Why can't everyone just be HAPPY to take family pictures? What is the big deal? Frustrated...a bit angry...and tired! Lynette, I need you.

I am venting right with you! I too ONLY ask for this once a year and I am always in a panic to "ask" Derek to PLEASE come and take family pictures. Hello - once a year. How hard can that be. To which he usually responds, we can use one we took from ______ vacation....ah, hello, no! Sweating, yucky clothes, bad lighting...I'm not sending that out to all my friends. I just ordered a remote for my camera so as to not have to deal with the timer. Oh, and once we get out there my sweet oh so loving husband thinks he knows how to take a picture and use my camera. Whew....I feel better. Nice to know I'm not alone

Staci! I love yoU! How can we get your family pictures done? Lets think? I actually think they turned our really cute! Your family is beautiful. You are always more critical of your own work.
Don't you just love husbands when it comes to family picture time. I am glad to know mine isn't the only one. THe husbands last about as long as the three year olds!

I think if you take pics of your own family, they're not as inclined to behave for you because you are "mom." Bribing always works well. The perfect time of day is 3:00 (after a nice big snack and naptime) Try the Capital bldg grounds. Lots of shade, lots of foliage, ivy (ground and climbing), and cool architechure details. Take a look on my blog, you'll see that we did some family pics there just recently that turned out well. I do love your family poses, but I agree that the sky totally disappeared! Also, who gets pictures every few months? That is absolutely amazing. It's pulling teeth to get them every year at our house!!!

I totally agree with you! I love geting good family pictures and absolutely HATE the process! Jeff always tells me not to get my hopes up as we are driving to the location! I think your pictures are great though and agree with Lynette. (you are always more critical of your own work)

Well I have to admit I am glad to hear you vent because I have the same problem. Taking pictures is like pulling teeth!!! However, I only have one kid and a husband so I can only imagine how much harder it will get in the future. Don't give up, some day they will all thank you for capturing those precious memories :) I liked your pictures either way, I love how you cordinated their clothes, they all look so great.

Your pictures are good Staci but I agree with the white sky. I hate when my sky whites out. You did good with the clothes though. Love the colors and everyone looks darling. I need to take mine soon... totally dreading it.

Your pics are great. But I must admit that getting them done is SOOO stressful. Your family is beautiful...and it's ALL your fault.
